What history? The importance of historic preservation | Richard Stamps | TEDxOaklandUniversity

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. POOF ! it's gone, lost forever. I contend that "what we call history , is not the real history of what happened , but what gets written down, documented, recorded or preserved." I call for a balanced, building for the future, while preserving materials from the past that define who we are and where we came from. Professor Stamps is a Californian, who studied at Modesto Jr. College, earned BA and MA degrees from Brigham Young University in Utah and then a PhD from Michigan State University in Anthropology, Archaeology and Chinese studies. He has traveled widely and lived overseas for more than seven of the past 50 years. He has been active in Historic Preservation on the local, county, state, national and international level. He is married with five children and nineteen grandchildren. He is currently an Emeritus Professor at Oakland University where he taught for 37 years. He continues to be active in local civic, educational and religious communities.
