A.T. Mile Markers 109–119 Winding Stair Gap to Wayah Bald

We were dropped off at Winding Stair Gap to hike to our car at the Wayah Bald parking area. Started the day with a 4-mile climb up to Silar Bald. At the start of the climb was a beautiful waterfall with a bridge over the stream. The top of Silar Bald is actually about a quarter mile climb off the AT, but the 360 degree view at the top was worth the side trail. About 6.5 miles into the hike, we found a nice picnic spot for lunch. After lunch, we had a 2.5 mile climb out of Wayah Gap. Temperatures were in the high 80’s, so the climb was very hard. Ended the hike at Wayah Bald Tower, where we had beautiful 360 degree views. From Wayah Bald Tower, we could see Albert Mountain at the top of the center peak below. • AT miles hiked: 10.1 miles • Total AT miles: 119.7 miles
