I would like to give you a little update on ‘Wolfpack’, my next campaign, which is for the P-47D Thunderbolt. ’Zemke’s Wolfpack’, the 56th Fighter Group was one of the most famous fighting units of the USAAF in World War II. Flying the P-47 Thunderbolt throughout their time stationed in England, the Group had more ace pilots and destroyed more enemy aircraft in air combat than any other. This is going to be my most historically accurate campaign to date. While my other campaigns are also results of extensive research, and the events are as realistic as possible, most of those missions didn’t really happen in real life. I put them together to give you a balanced and entertaining variety of sorties that could have been flown by these pilots in world war II. This time, however, I got my hands on original after action combat reports written by the pilots of the 56th Fighter group. In these, they described the events of the day and the circumstances of the battle. I recreated 12 of these missions flown in the spring of 1944 down to the smallest detail. The only compromise I had to make was due to DCS map limitations: I had to change some of the locations and make the missions considerably shorter. Wolfpack will enable you to re-live these events as they happened, and have a taste of what it must have been like to be a young fighter pilot in 1944. I did not write the script. History did. So if you’ll find these missions too easy, too hard, too boring or too exciting, you can file your complaints with General Doolittle or Reichsmarshall Göring. I can assure you, this campaign will be a real eye opener for all WWII enthusiasts. Stay tuned!
