Hi everyone, this is TERU! In today’s episode, I conducted a comparative analysis of Valentine’s Day customs in Japan versus other cultures. The inspiration for this talk came from a poignant question posed by one of my students on February 14th: "TERU-san, is it really wise to be working today? Aren't you afraid of losing your wife's affection?" This encounter prompted me to re-examine our "cultural norms" through a more global lens. I explored the topic through three distinct perspectives: The definition of Valentine’s Day abroad: A day for established partners to reaffirm their bond, characterized by the proactive role of men in providing hospitality and romantic gestures. The unique evolution of Japanese traditions: An examination of how commercial strategies transformed the day into a gender-specific gifting ritual, involving complex social categories such as Honmei-choco and Giri-choco. Personal reflections on gratitude: Reflecting on my own experiences—from the excitement of school-day exchanges to the profound appreciation for the time and effort my wife invested in baking homemade treats this year. This podcast is curated for Advanced learners (JLPT N2-N1 level). I have utilized sophisticated vocabulary and formal expressions (such as hikaku-kousatsu, souigo, and shijou-kachi) to help you master the nuances of intellectual discourse and cultural commentary in Japanese. If you are interested in exploring the intersection of tradition, commercialism, and personal relationships, this episode is for you. I look forward to hearing your perspectives! 😊 Let me know if you have any requests on what kind of topics you would like to hear 😄 Who am I ?: My name is TERU and I am a software engineer in Tokyo, Japan 📲 SOCIALS 🎙 Podcast: https://anchor.fm/naruhodo-teru 📸 Instagram: / naruhodo_japanese_with_teru 😛 Preply: https://preply.com/en/tutor/583565/ 🛍️ RECOMMENDATION 👹OniKanji: https://onikanji.com/?ref=teruJapanes...
