Uffington is well worth a visit with many fine examples of cottages built of local chalk, many of them thatched. The village of Uffington in Oxfordshire lies on the edge of the Vale of the White Horse, just north of the Berkshire Downs. Uffington is known for the famous White Horse which is the oldest chalk-cut hill figure in Britain, perhaps over 3,000 years old. There is an attractive mix of building materials in Uffington, with older parts of the village being almost entirely built in chalk, these are off-set by the newer build which is a soft cream sandstone. One chalk building in this video is the 17th-century structure that was the old school house.
