Now that I am playing with the milling attachment for my Craftsman 618 lathe, I needed to make a protector to go over the threads on the spindle where the chucks normally go. Otherwise if that gets damaged, it can ruin the usefulness of the lathe. So this is the video that documents my path to make one out of aluminum. This also marks the first video where I use my new Moto G Stylus 2024 instead of my original 5 yr old moto g stylus android phone....there were some teething issues for that related to the video being zoomed in more than I wanted, as well as some audio pain as well...due to the default on this version of android using the internal microphone vs the plugged in headset that when it was in on my old phone, knew to auto-switch to that vs the built in mic....i did finally figure out how to change that setting. And will try and adjust the video to not be zoomed in (ie the black bars on the sides of some of this for the next video. Hopefully though there will be some useful information in here. Such as always make sure your boring bars you try and use are properly set for center vs too high (or too low) as otherwise the cut quality will suck. Also I ran into for the first time, what seemed to be hardened aluminum that made drilling and working on it more of a pain vs the nice normal cuts. I think it was due to this chunk of aluminum being from a store on ebay where they cut it to length with a fiber cut off saw that likely heated it up a lot as it burned its way through.
