The I2C protocol is a widely used communication protocol for embedded systems. It was designed to enable low-speed communications between devices, such as sensors and displays. The I2C protocol makes use of two-wire buses, which are simple and inexpensive to implement. The I2C communication protocol consists of a master device that sends and receives information on the bus; slaves are attached to the bus by means of connectors. A slave device is controlled by an I2C controller which reads or writes data to/from the slave device using control signals sent over the clock line and data lines. A multi-master bus is an I2C bus with multiple masters connected to it. Each master may read or write data to its own position in a byte address space independently of any other master's activity on the bus.
