My first cycle ride into Cornwall – and the second highest elevation gain of all my bike rides (last year’s Dartmoor cycle ride is still the highest). This 29.65-mile (not 19.65 as it says in the intro screens!!!), 3,444 ft elevation gain circular Devon & Cornwall cycle route is an adapted version of #8 in Nick Cotton’s “24 one-day routes in Cornwall & Devon”: ‘In and out of the Tamar valley between Tavistock and Launceston’. I adapted it to omit both towns and instead started at Mary Tavy near Lydford, on the A386 (West of Dartmoor), cycling in a clockwise direction. I also did a cut-off to avoid Launceston at the other end. This stunning bike ride in the South West of England has everything: quiet sunken lanes, pretty villages, woodland, rivers, 2 ancient packhorse bridges, streams, moorland (foothills of West Dartmoor) and lots and lots of hills! Be sure to check out my bike ride videos and the other (mainly Yorkshire) cycle ride segments - ideal for use at the gym on an indoor trainer, exercise bike, treadmill, cross trainer, etc! Most are in Yorkshire, but some are in Lancashire, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Cornwall and Derbyshire.
