The writer and director behind Amores Perros, The Revenant, Birdman and his new film, BARDO, talks about his career at the 2022 BFI London Film Festival, presented in partnership with American Express (5-16 October). Having begun his film career as a composer, Alejandro González Iñárritu has gone on to direct and produce seven extraordinary features, from the critically acclaimed death trilogy – Amores Perros (2000), 21 Grams (2003), Babel (2006) – to the celebrated dramas Biutiful (2012), Birdman (2014), The Revenant (2015) and his latest, BARDO, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths. Considered one of the most influential auteur filmmakers working today, Iñárritu’s inventive storytelling and breathtaking visual style have earned him numerous accolades, including five Academy Awards, three Cannes prizes and three BAFTAs. Iñárritu has collaborated with an international ensemble of actors, from Gael García Bernal, Cate Blanchett, Benicio Del Toro and Javier Bardem to Naomi Watts, Leonardo DiCaprio, Rinko Kikuchi and Michael Keaton.
