I love Gorky 17. Gorky 17 is the best game ever created, released in 1999 by the Polish company Metropolis Software alternatively released under the name Odium in the U.S. The basic plot of the game follows a group of NATO Troops who have to reveal the mystery behind strange hybrid creatures that have started popping up in a old soviet military base located near the polish town of Lublin, The main hero of the story is the 40-year-old Canadian soldier Cole Sullivan, a commando team member with extensive scientific knowledge. His team's task is to explain the hybrids' presence and to find the missing members of Group One. Work on the game began around 1997 and was known by the title of 'Haunted City' this name of course was changed in later development and the game was entirely rendered in Real3D. The developers debated whether to use real time combat or turn-based combat ultimately settling for a hybrid (like many creatures in the game) of both. IGN even rated the game a 7/10 saying "the environments themselves are nicely drawn, character animations are very fluid, and the atmosphere presented is ultimately quite captivating." which I think given how IGN are quite well trusted this speaks for itself. There was also two sequels released after this, Gorky Zero:Beyond Honor which is a third-person isometric stealth action game. The story serves as a prequel to Gorky 17. and then there was also Gorky Zero 2: Aurora Watching which is a third-person stealth action game, and a sequel to Gorky Zero. The game was published in North America by Dreamcatcher Interactive as Soldier Elite, and in Europe by Enlight Software as Aurora Watching. The English translation ignores all ties to the previous Gorky titles, for example changing the protagonist's name from Cole Sullivan to White Fox. The English language story concerns the protagonist infiltrating a secret Russian base where scientists are developing enhanced human soldiers called "Crazy Ivans". and I don't agree with alot of these decisions however I still believe Gorky 17 was the Golden Age of gaming released in 1999 and barely noticed even though it is a masterpiece. I would personally rate the game 10/10 for its amazing story and simply breathtaking gameplay and it was a majestic experience playing the game.
