Here is the easiest way i've found to get your hands on the unique Alien Blaster - Firelance. This location is where i always get it, because it's rather convenient for finding the 25 scattered items throughout. It is pretty easy, you can see the general location in the video - just west of Minefield. Just do a quicksave at the foot of the curved road leading up the hill towards the water tower and keep triggering the encounter until you get the UFO. You can see that my PC stutters when i pass by the large rock, that's where the trigger is exactly. Good luck. For those unfamiliar with the game's intricacies, here goes: The Firelance can only be obtained by what's called a "random encounter". Random encounters are scripted events that happen at predefined locations around the wasteland. There are many different ones, but as a rule, once you have triggered a certain location no more events will spawn there. If the encounter you get is repeatable then it will become "fixed" to that particular location (for example Talon Company mercs attacking you). Now, the Firelance is a unique version of the Alien Blaster and this encounter is the only, and i mean only way you can obtain it (cheats aside of course). When the UFO crashes it will spill exactly 24 alien power cells around where it goes down. It helps enormously to bring Dogmeat along, as you see i've done. He can find the cells and the Firelance itself in no time. If you're doing this without Dogmeat my only advice is to do it at night (as you can see the white glow of the power cells is quite more distinct in the darkness) and search in widening circles around ground zero. The cells and the Firelance sometimes lodge between rocks too, so keep your eyes open. And most importantly - don't give up. It's murder on your eyes, but it's there and you'll find it eventually.
