60007 ‘Sir Nigel Gresley’ arrives at the Mid Hants Railway | 1/10/25

Another day, a different LSL engine as we capture Sir Nigel Gresley heading to the Mid Hants Railway for their upcoming Autumn Steam Gala. 60007 has recently spent its time at Hopetown Darlington for their Titans Of Steam Gala but as soon as the gala was ‘in the can’: 60007 would begin the long trip south to the Mid Hants. We first capture 60007 passing through the small station of Syon Lane located just outside of Brentford, London. From my understanding, this spot can be very hit or miss as locos don’t always the green signal straight away however I got lucky as soon as the crews saw the signal, they opened up straight away. A similar performance would be followed at Chertsey where she stopped to take on water. Her departure coinciding perfectly with the after school rush, with many school children gathered to watch the A4 Pacific accelerate away from Chertsey. SNG would continue on her path south to Guildford where she’d run around her support coach to run tender first, this allowed us to overtake her and watch her drift past Wanborough station. SNG would then have to stop for 30 minutes at Bentley to allow an service train from Alton pass, this once again allowed us to overtake the A4 onto the Mid Hants itself where she’d begin attack of ‘the alps’. When all was said and done, an opportunity to watch her being put on shed at Ropley was too good of an opportunity not to take so that’s what we did!
