This boat has been SOLD! Congratulations to the owner! Original 2020 desription: Possibilities is a 1987 Catalina 38 currently located at Lake Mead Marina in Lake Mead National Recreational Area near Boulder City, NV. Between 1977 and 1990, Catalina Yachts produced 366 Catalina 38s, making this one of the more recent hulls. Possibilities has an outstanding compliment of sails and other canvas. She has: Two Mainsails. Two Spinnakers. Three Jibs - one 100%, one 130% and one 155%. She also has a drifter jib that works like magic in light air. The majority of Possibilities working canvas are North Sails. All of her sails are in very good working condition. All of her sails have sail bags, and she has a new custom jib cover that keeps the zipper protected from UV as well. Possibilities has a compliment of 7 winches and numerous winch handles. Four of her winches are self-tailing. Two of the self tailing winches are for Port and Starboard halyards, and two are large chrome Lewmar 52T that are used for jib sheets. There are two auxiliary winches located aft of the Lewmar winches on the combing, and a winch for the spinnaker halyard located on the mast. All winches are in very good working condition, and both of the Lewmar 52T winches were recently professionally serviced (cleaned and lubricated). Possibilities auxiliary power is a 24 horsepower Universal Atomic 3 cylinder Diesel which is based on a Kubota tractor block that connects to a three blade fixed propeller through a Hurth transmission. All regular maintenance for the propulsion system has been done, and everything is in great working order. Possibilities has cushions for all of the sleeping and sitting areas of the cabin, and cushions for the cockpit as well. All of her cushions are in great condition. She also has carpet on the cabin floor that is in good condition. A nice feature of her galley is the sink has a foot pump for lake/sea water. This is very handy for cleaning and conserving potable tank water. The boat has had significant maintenance and mechanical upgrades. In 2017 her Edson Steering pedestal was replaced, along with new chain and cable for the steering system. The lifelines were upgraded to Amsteel Blue dyneema with mid-ship gates making access egress to the boat much more comfortable. Her Garhauer traveller was upgraded from 2:1 to 6:1. Her mainsheet has a new Harken fiddle and provides 13:1 power to the boom. Her adjustable backstay hydraulic tensioner is in perfect working order. Her running lights, anchor light, spreader light, and all of her cabin lights were converted to LED, and a string of red LED lights were added to the cabin ceiling so that the skipper’s visibility isn’t impaired when others need light below. The heat exchanger was cleaned using Barnacle Buster and the blackwater system was treated with Sewclean. Batteries were replaced with a Duracell Ultra 27 Marine and RV Terminal Deep Cycle, and a West Marine Charging system was professionally installed. In 2018 she got a new Garhauer boom vang that eliminated the need for a topping lift, and provides significant control over the angle of the boom for trim. The backstay adjuster was professionally serviced with new O rings and high viscosity hydraulic fluid. She also got a new Hood Seafurl 5 Roller furler and all of the jibs professionally altered by Point Sails to fit the new environment. The Hood Seafurl 5 has 100' of working Sta-Set line. A length of the line was de-sheathed and the sheath was spliced into the core and secured with a bar tack. A two sided jiffy reefing system (suitable for racing as it doesn’t interfere with sail shape when not reefed) was installed that allows for rapid reefing with no need for crew on the foredeck. Possibilities has two anchors. One is kept in a locker in the bow, the other is kept on a cockpit stanchion rail on the stern. The stern anchor has line with rode chain in a compartment under the skipper seat. She has 3 fire extinguishers, and all required signal and emergency equipment, including an advanced Cobra VHF radio. She has a boatswains chair, and a Mast-Mate step system that makes service aloft much easier and safer. She has more than 12 Personal Flotation Devices and two youth size. She also comes with 3 West Marine self-inflating life vests for foredeck crew. She's equipped with tools and other items too numerous to mention. Possibilities has been a fresh water boat for the great majority of her life, however would make a very comfortable sea-worthy vessel on the ocean. Possibilities is a classic, reliable and sturdy gem of a sailboat with many more adventures in her future! She is calling you to take her out on her next one! #sailboatvideotourslakemead #boatluv #thedesertsailor
