He was considered a musical prodigy who attracted attention early on with his compositions and piano playing. From 1904 he studied in Bologna, Berlin and Paris. In addition to numerous works for guitar and piano, Ponce created orchestral and chamber music pieces as well as songs. The short Intermezzo No. 1 - originally for piano - touches with tender intimacy through to more passionate, dramatic moments. His compositional techniques are characterized by the masterful use of melody and harmony, which creates a feeling of depth and richness.
