My Taiwanese friend gave some fruit protection bags. I was using them for individual fruits. The fruit fly cannot be eradicated or fully controlled because they are very tiny insects. Female fruit flies sting fruit and vegetables at risk from fruit fly to lay their eggs. The eggs develop into maggots, which feed off the fruit, making it rotten. Infected fruit drops to the ground and the maggots bury into the soil, where they become pupae. Check the outside of your fruit and vegetables for bruises or blemishes indicating it has been stung by a fruit fly. Check the inside of your fruit and vegetables by cutting open your fruit and looking for tiny white maggots wriggling around indicating it has been infected by fruit fly. You are more likely to see maggots than fruit fly. Vinegar flies which are tiny and dark are often seen around fruit in your fruit bowl, in compost, and sometimes in shops. These are harmless and you do not need to report them. Queensland fruit fly is a serious pest for both home gardeners and commercial growers. Queensland fruit fly attacks a wide range of fruits and fruiting vegetables, leaving them inedible.
