It has been quite the crazy couple of weeks! Lexi had finally gotten over the cold she got the first week of school and then she was better. It was short lived though as after a day or 2 of feeling better she started in with severe croupy cough and congestion at night. That Monday morning she woke up with a 100.5 fever so we kept her home from school, Pioneer Club and dance class. She was exhausted from coughing all night so she mostly slept the day away. Her fever stayed down the rest of the day without meds, so we sent her to school the next day. She still had the croupy cough and congestion, she just couldn't kick it, but she was well enough with no fever to go to school. We were doing all the things, chest rub, cool mist humidifier, etc. Fast forward to that Thursday and the school called me to pick her up because she had a 101.9 fever that afternoon. We got her a sick visit to the pediatrician on Friday who decided a chest X-ray was in order in case she had pneumonia. She felt it was likely viral parainfluenza, but she didn't want to take any chances given her history and her low immune system. There was a lot of junk in her lungs on the X-ray, but ultimately she and the radiologist who read it decided it could be the start of pneumonia but it was most likely viral. So we are keeping an eye for now and she is back to her normal activities. She still has the croupy cough and congestion, but it's not as bad as it was. Unfortunately her immune system will take a couple years or more to rebuild post-chemo and it may never be what it once was! Getting sick is the norm for her during school now it seems. In Kindergarten she was sick more than she wasn’t! She was finally able to go back to dance the next week so she is excited to share this update with you. She's learned/gotten better at so many skills! #dance #ballet #childhoodcancer Lexi is inching closer and closer to her goal of getting 1,000 subscribers. She's just over halfway there!
