A patient is in a serious condition in hospital this morning after a “technical event” caused a plane travelling from Sydney to Auckland to suddenly drop, injuring around 50 people on board. At least 50 passengers were injured on Latam Airline flight LA800 heading from Sydney to Auckland. Passengers say they felt a “sharp drop” and those who weren’t wearing seatbelts were sent flying into the cabin roof. “Flight LA800, operating the Sydney-Auckland route, had a technical event during the flight which caused a strong movement,” Latam Airlines said in a statement. “LATAM deeply regrets any inconvenience and discomfort this situation may have caused its passengers and reiterates its commitment to safety as a priority within the framework of its operational standards.”
