As a final send off (probably forever) to my favorite capital Dalaran, here is a collection of music from Dalaran from the Wrath of the Lich King and Legion expansions from the World of Warcraft videogame. 00:00:00 Dalaran Intro 00:02:42 Dalaran 3 00:03:52 Dalaran 4 00:05:22 Dalaran 5 Spire 00:06:53 Dalaran Sewer 1 00:08:00 Dalaran Sewer 2 00:09:42 Dalaran Sewer 3 00:10:54 Dalaran Sewer 4 00:11:59 Dalaran Dawn H 00:13:32 Dalaran Dawn A 00:15:06 Dalaran Dawn B 00:16:38 Dalaran Dusk H 00:18:16 Dalaran Dusk A 00:19:54 Dalaran Dusk B 00:21:29 Dalaran Dusk C 00:23:06 Dalaran Khadgar Day H 00:24:14 Dalaran Khadgar Day A 00:25:21 Dalaran Khadgar Day B 00:26:11 Dalaran Khadgar Day C 00:27:18 Dalaran Khadgar Night H 00:28:32 Dalaran Khadgar Night A 00:29:45 Dalaran Khadgar Night B 00:31:02 Dalaran Khadgar Night C 00:32:09 Dalaran Hall 1 H 00:34:27 Dalaran Hall 1 A 00:36:41 Dalaran Hall 1 B 00:38:48 Dalaran Hall 1 C 00:41:00 Dalaran Hall 2 H 00:42:51 Dalaran Hall 2 A 00:44:41 Dalaran Hall 2 B 00:46:32 Dalaran Jaina H 00:47:38 Dalaran Jaina A 00:49:20 Dalaran Jaina B 00:51:16 Dalaran Jaina C 00:52:21 Dalaran Sewers 1 H 00:54:32 Dalaran Sewers 1 A 00:56:44 Dalaran Sewers 1 B 00:58:19 Dalaran Sewers 1 C 00:59:28 Dalaran Sewers 2 H 01:02:04 Dalaran Sewers 2 A 01:04:37 Dalaran Sewers 2 B Some random facts about the music, Russell Brower first developed themes for Dalaran for the 2008 release of the Wrath of the Lich King expansion to the game. The duduk was predominantly used and gave Dalaran its cachet as it was not an instrument that was used often in the game. It is presumably played by Pedro Eustache (who also played flute instruments for The Burning Crusade, Starcraft 2...) so I am not surprised of its quality. When the Legion expansion released, Neal Acree tackled the music for Dalaran. He reused the themes from Brower, he changed and made them sound a bit softer instead of grand or epic (which can become a bit annoying if you play the game a lot and listen to it too long) and again used the duduk. The music he produced was also much longer than Wrath's. Since it is the space the player would likely spend the most time, he opted for many variations and I am grateful for it. Brower did compose for the Legion expansion but apparently not on Dalaran. Because Neal Acree reused themes from Russell Brower, the latter is also credited for "Dalaran Dawn" and "Dalaran Dusk". The "Dalaran Khadgar Day/Night" theme is a softer reuse of the Khadgar theme called "Khadgar's Plan", created by Neal Acree for the Warlords of Draenor expansion (you can hear it ingame, in the reveal trailer of Warlords of Draenor and the very end its CGI cinematic when the logo appears). "Dalaran Halls 2" is actually another remix of Khadgar's theme. "Dalaran Jaina" is based on a melody created by Russell Brower for Warlords of Draenor, called "Proudmoore H" which actually sounds a bit intense and I do not remember it from WoD, but it has been a while and Jaina is not a major character in that expansion; so the timing of the creation of that "theme" is a bit curious. "Dalaran Jaina" is mostly based around the beginning of the "Proudmoore H" track and it sounds again much softer in Dalaran. "Dalaran Hall 1" is also based on that "Proudmoore H" melody. That is why Russell Brower is credited for the Dalaran Halls variations as well as "Dalaran Jaina". Maybe it could be considered a theme for Jaina but I don't think there has been a callback of that theme ever since. Jaina is also associated with the 5.1. Landfall patch "Jaina Homeland" theme written by good old Jason Hayes. So I guess she has multiple themes of her own. As for the Dalaran Sewers tracks from Legion, those are unique compositions from Neal Acree, I particularly like the "Dalaran Sewers 2" variations, the duduk is particularly heavenly. I also really like the "Dalaran Dusk" tracks, from which I feel a great sense of nostalgia... and a hint of melancholia? Anyway, feel free to share what the music makes you feel, your opinions etc. I'm actually pretty curious and.. to no surprise to you, quite passionate about this. For me, this city will remain maybe the most iconic city from the game. Beyond the gameplay aspect, it has something others cities lack. It has its own vibe. Not completely Eastern-sounding, not completely Western or "classical Fantasy" sounding (unlike Stormwind for instance). It truly feels unique to me, at least in the game. And I cannot pretend not being tinged with a bit of sadness as we will probably never see it again. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Composed by Russell Brower and Neal Acree. ©2008 Blizzard Entertainment, Inc.
