When PNW photographer Justin Myers noticed that the ocean waters he loves to surf were changing, he begin began the fight to save both the underwater forests and the above water communities relying on them. Vanishing Forests follows photographer Justin Myers as he uncovers the mysterious and alarming disappearance of kelp forests along the Oregon coast. As these vital underwater ecosystems continue to change vanish, marine life and coastal communities will be left in jeopardy. In the small fishing town of Port Orford, Justin teams up with marine biologist Tom Calvanese, diving into the depths of the ocean to explore the profound impact of this loss and try to find a way to stop it. As they document the disappearing kelp forests, the film sheds light on the interconnectedness of nature and the livelihoods of coastal communities. Vanishing Forests is a gripping exploration of nature’s fragility and the hope that can save it.
