This video commemorates the 80th anniversary of Mission Detroit, part of Operation Neptune – the assault portion of Operation Overlord, popularly known as D-Day. Mission Detroit was among the first two US Airborne Troop Carrier assaults in the early morning hours of D-Day, and included the participation of CG-4A combat glider pilot Flight Officer James L. Larkin of the 84th Troop Carrier Squadron, 437th Troop Carrier Group, 53rd Troop Carrier Wing, IX Troop Carrier Command of the United States 9th Air Force. There are many more stories to be shared by this combat glider pilot who participated in the four largest Allied invasions in the European Theater of Operations (ETO) in WWII, the other three being the invasion of Southern France (Operation Dragoon), the invasion of the Netherlands (Operation Market, the airborne part of the overall Operation Market Garden), and the invasion of the Germany over the Rhine River (Operation Varsity). These invasions, as well as Larkin's journey through the glider pilot training program in the USA, have been well-documented through hours of on-camera interviews, declassified US Army after-action reports, photos, and other wartime paraphernalia that I hope to present in due course. Michael Larkin
