Psalm 105 opens with a call to worship: “Give thanks to Yahweh… seek His face continually.” The psalmist directs God’s people to remember His covenant with Abraham—land, nation, and blessing—and to rejoice in the Lord who keeps His word across generations. This sermon traces that thread of covenant faithfulness from Abraham to Israel, showing that history is not random. God remembers. God protects. God fulfills what He promises. Even when His people are few, weak, wandering, or surrounded by hostile powers, the Lord remains the faithful covenant-keeping God. The message then turns to Genesis 12:10–13:1, where Abraham goes down to Egypt during famine. Fear leads him to compromise, placing Sarai in danger and relying on deception to “protect” God’s promises. Yet the Lord intervenes—striking Pharaoh with plagues and preserving both Sarai and the covenant line. The parallels to Eden and the Exodus are intentional: seeing, taking, judgment, expulsion, and divine mercy. Israel’s original readers would have recognized the pattern. The main point emerges clearly: when we are faithless, He remains faithful. God does not depend on human strategy to accomplish His purposes. He keeps His covenant because of His character, not because of our consistency. From there, the sermon applies the narrative to marriage and discipleship. Abraham’s failure with Sarai becomes a negative example, contrasting with the biblical vision of marriage as a living picture of Christ and the church (Ephesians 5; 1 Peter 3; Hebrews 13:4; 1 Corinthians 7). Husbands are called to sacrificial love; wives to trusting, intelligent submission; both to purity, exclusivity, honor, and mutual responsibility. Marriage is not merely personal fulfillment—it is gospel representation. In addition, believers are urged not to walk alone. Godly discipleship relationships provide protection from fear-driven decisions and self-deception. Faith matures in community, accountability, and reverent fear of the Lord rather than fear of man. Finally, the sermon closes in Nehemiah 9, where post-exilic Israel confesses its long history of rebellion yet clings to God’s steadfast love. Though the people were stiff-necked, God was gracious, compassionate, and slow to anger. The same faithful character seen with Abraham and at the Red Sea is celebrated again. The invitation is clear: trust the covenant-keeping God today. Do not delay repentance. Do not rely on self-preservation or worldly wisdom. There is no safer place than in the hands of the faithful Lord who keeps His promises in Christ.
