Margaret Bridge (in Hungarian - Margit híd) is the second-built bridge in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, after the Chain bridge. Margaret bridge is located in the central part of the capital city and it comprises of three sections. The right section leading to the Buda side, the left section to the Pest side and the central sectuin that allows easy access to the Margaret Island (in Hungarian - Margit sziget) The bridge was built in 1872 by a French engineer called Ernest Goüin and it was completed in 1876. During the 2nd World War it was destroyed by the nazi's, basically it was bombed and shuttered down like all other bridges in the city. So at that time the was no more connection between Buda and Pest, other than by boat. After the war, it was rebuilt by the Hungarians, mostly with the steel lifted from the river, so the bridge has almost entirely the original steel material and structure that it had before the 2nd World War. Around early 2000, the bridge was in a very poor condition, but an extensive renovation process took place and nowadays Margjt híd represents one of the most important cultural elements of Budapest, seen by millions of tourists every year.
