For the record, this is not my video or gun or cartridge load. However, I do load and shoot black powder (bp) charged paper patched bullets (PPBs) exclusively for my Sharps falling block and Remington rolling block replica BPCR rifles. There are many advantages to loading bp PPB cartridges and that includes not having to be concerned about the cartridge OAL since the PPB is a bore rider, and the paper jacketing means no rifling leading. Many are concerned about rifle black powder residue fouling and clean up and all I can say is, not a problem, faster and easier than with smokeless guns. The fired brass is a concern as bp residue needs to be addressed ASAP. The fired cases go into a jug of soapy water which is later washed out with water, deprimed and cleaned the same as with smokeless cases (vibratory tumbler, rotary tumbler, or ultra sonic). The chief bugaboo about loading bp PPB cartridges is the bullet, or as we call it, a "slick" - it has no grooves for lube because no lube is used or needed. The bullet needs to be sized so that when wrapped twice with paper it will be slightly under, or at, bore size. For a .45-70, this has meant for me to cast a 525 grain slick at .440" to .443" dropped diameter using a 16:1 alloy of lead:tin, and wrapping with .002" tracing paper. The resulting PPB is .4495" in diameter. A PPB .45-70 primer can be found here, and the content applies to all PPB bp cartridges - http://www.bpgang.com/ppb/ppbcartridg...
