Congratulations Rai Jalan and Sita Rai Sita Maya The Rai people are one of the major indigenous communities living in the Himalayan and hilly regions of Nepal. The wedding traditions of the Rai community are rich and diverse, incorporating various cultural and religious activities. Rai weddings are usually celebrated with the active participation of both the family and the community. Rai Community Wedding Process Matrimonial Proposal and Pitho: The marriage process in the Rai community is primarily based on family decisions. When a man wishes to propose to a woman, he involves his family members and presents the proposal to the woman's family. During this process, the woman's family checks the man's family background and social standing. Kasma (Agreement): An agreement called "Kasma" is made for the marriage. This agreement involves the families of the groom and bride and covers all aspects of the marriage, such as dowry, rituals, and other family expectations. The terms discussed in this agreement often reflect the cultural, social, and religious traditions of both families. Engagement and Tika: After the wedding date is set, an engagement ceremony and tika ritual are performed. In this ceremony, both families exchange mutual respect and blessings. The groom applies tika on the bride, symbolizing love and well wishes. Main Wedding Ceremony: The main wedding ceremony in the Rai community is largely based on Hindu traditions, including various religious and cultural rituals. During the ceremony, the groom and bride walk around a sacred fire (Agni) seven times, each round symbolizing vows they make to support and assist each other in various aspects of life. Pashupati and Brahmin Worship: During the wedding, prayers to deities such as Pashupati and other gods are performed. This is done to make the marriage sacred and to receive blessings. Worshipping Brahmins and seeking blessings from spiritual leaders is also an important part of the ceremony in the Rai community. Mangalsutra and Ring: After the marriage ceremony, the bride is given a mangalsutra and a ring. These are symbols of the marriage's sanctity and the unity of the couple. Post-Wedding Rituals: At the end of the wedding day, the bride departs for her new home. This journey is a celebratory occasion, often accompanied by family members. Upon arrival, the bride is traditionally welcomed with religious ceremonies and rituals by her new family. Conclusion: Rai weddings are a cultural heritage that continues to uphold the traditions and beliefs of the community. Each step in the wedding process is a symbol of unity and cooperation within the family and the larger community. Rai weddings help to strengthen bonds of love, trust, and familial relationships. #ruralindia #nepalesevillage #nepalvillage #stunningpakistan #ruralnepal #harirokaya #jalanrai #sitamayarai #jalanandsitamaya
