Intermediate Subalgebras of Cartan embeddings in rings and C*-algebras. Let A be a Steinberg algebra associated to an etale groupoid G, and let D be the subalgebra of functions support on the unit space of G. Suppose B is an algebraic intermediate to D and A, i.e. D ⊆ B ⊆ A. In this talk we will discuss when properties of the inclusion D ⊆ A are preserved by the inclusion D ⊆ B. In particular, we are interested in whether D ⊆ A is (quasi-)Cartan or Diagonal means that D ⊆ B is also (quasi-)Cartan or Diagonal. We will also looked at the analogous question for C*-algbera inclusions. This is joint work with Jon Brown and Lisa Orloff Clark.
