PennWest University marked the National Day of Racial Healing with a virtual program featuring civil rights historian, author, and museum founder David L. Crane on Feb. 2, 2026. Crane – founder of the Making the Movement Civil Rights Museum and author of Making the Movement: How Activists Fought for Civil Rights with Buttons, Flyers, Pins, and Posters – presented: “A Blueprint for the Movement: Transforming Moments into Momentum.” His presentation explored how artifacts and stories from the civil rights movement served not only as historical documentation but also as a framework for advancing justice, dignity, and belonging in the present day. He highlighted how everyday materials such as buttons, flyers, and posters fueled grassroots organizing and collective action. The event was hosted by PennWest’s Office of Community, Opportunity, Responsibility, and Engagement (CORE) as part of the university’s commitment to fostering dialogue, understanding, and inclusive communities.
