In this video I go through the process of making a basic homemade bowl of matcha. I chose to make it ASMR-style with no talking so you can focus on the beautiful experience of making matcha yourself! While I do incorporate some minor ceremonial elements, the purpose of this video isn't to focus on matcha done in the ceremonial style. I'll list more info on the tools and process here below. Tools: Chawan (matcha bowl) Matcha from Shogoykuen Tea Farm, Japan Chasen (tea whisk) Chashaku (tea whisk) Kensui (waste water bowl) Tea towel Bonavita 1L Gooseneck Variable Temperature Kettle Process: 1. Warm the water to 80C, or 175F (more on this in another video) 2. Pour warmed water into the chawan 3. Place the chasen into the bowl and gently rotate 2-3 times. 4. Gently whisk the chasen through the warm water and set aside. 5. Empty the bowl into the waste water vessel and dry with towel 6. Use chashaku to scoop roughly 2g (~ 1/2 tsp) matcha powder into the bowl 7. Add 60mL or 2 ounces of hot water to the bowl 8. Use chasen to whisk vigorously, but not forcefully, for about 15-20 seconds until a nice froth forms 9. Enjoy slowly and fully! 10. Use more water to cleanse the bowl and whisk and discard. Wipe the chashaku clean with a DRY paper towel. I have another video coming soon that is a much more in-depth explanation of this whole process, but for now just sit back, relax, and enjoy the experience of the video.
