Paul is responsible for leading the environment work at NEOM, ensuring that NEOM is being designed and built in harmony with nature. His team oversees the critical tasks of assessing and approving development activities, ensuring the highest levels of sustainability across the built environment, and designing a comprehensive network of nature parks to protect and enhance NEOM’s biodiversity. Prior to joining NEOM, Paul served as Managing Director and senior ecologist of Reef Ecologic, a company specialized in creating innovative solutions for environmental challenges. He is currently also a Professor (adjunct) with James Cook University in Australia, from where he attained his PhD in Marine Biology, while he has authored over 80 peer-reviewed articles and internationally significant reports. He has completed over 3000 hours underwater as a Commercial Diver from the Australian Diver Accreditation Scheme (ADAS). Throughout his distinguished career, Paul has regularly advised and worked with international organizations, national governments, NGOs. Paul was the founding director of the Climate Change Program at the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, where he worked for 15 years as an advisor and expert on coral reef science & management. He also was a founding member of the IUCN Working Group on Climate Change and Coral Reefs, member of the IUCN Commission on Ecosystem Management, member of the Advisory Board of the Ocean Acidification International Coordination Centre, and he served as co-chair of the International Working Group on Management for the Coral Restoration Consortium.
