6.7.20 | 6:30 PM PDT | Hollywood, CA | Hollywood Blvd Peace & Justice protester numbers were estimated at a staggering 20,000+ on Day 11 of the Hollywood/Los Angeles peace & justice demonstrations decrying institutional racism. It looked like more. It was like floating in an ocean of humanity - a bobbing human flotilla of beautiful multi-hued heads visible clear to the horizons, emphatically jabbing protest signs and fists skyward. Their message is clear: enduring racism must no longer be legal, no longer be tolerated, no longer allowed to survive. George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and all the others who died senselessly at the hands of abusive police officers have not died in vain - the thunderous acclamation wants that known. "No Justice, No Peace." The L.A. chapter of the Black Lives Matter organization, along with rapper YG and BLD PWR - promoters of social equity - sponsored today's demonstration, promoting justice, peace, racial reconciliation, and police reforms. Where normally an American flag is flown atop Hollywood's iconic Capitol Records store, today a Black Lives Matter flag saluted this historic day. The parade stopped periodically to pause in silent remembrance of the many innocent lives lost in police-related conflicts. There were no injuries and no arrests in today's activities. After arriving on May 30th for an eight-day deployment in Los Angeles and throughout California, some of the 7,000 California National Guard troops are slated to begin withdrawing to their home armories on Sunday evening; a small contingent will remain temporarily until June 10th as an emergency resource to assure ongoing peace. LAPD Chief Michel Moore maintained a high profile throughout the weekend, attending a multidenominational prayer meeting on Saturday evening and speaking to demonstrators one-on-one. Moore acknowledged that LAPD mistakes had been made, adding that police policy now bans the use of lethal force, including chokeholds, when apprehending suspects.
