Odisha: Student Suicide Trigger India-Nepal Diplomatic Row; KP Sharma Oli Says... | Spotlight The suicide of a Nepalese student at an Indian private university in the eastern state of Odisha led to a brief diplomatic strain between New Delhi and Kathmandu. According to police, a 20-year-old female Computer Science student from Nepal died by suicide on February 16 due to alleged harassment by a male student. The accused was subsequently arrested by the police on February 17th. Meanwhile, as the news of a Nepalese student's suicide spread, students, most of them from Nepal, launched an overnight protest against the University authorities. In response, the University ordered the expulsion of all Nepalese students citing "indiscipline." Following the expulsion, Nepalese Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said he was working with New Delhi to deal with the situation.
