Once again, here is a massive test for the software Noteperformer using one of the greatest and largest pieces of classical repertoire: Gustav Holst's symphonic suite, "The Planets". More tests: The Rite of Spring: • The Ultimate Test for Noteperformer: Strav... Holst's "The Planets": • Noteperformer Plays: Holst - The Planets (... Two Gilbert and Sullivan overtures: • Noteperformer Plays: Two Gilbert and Sulli... and Sibelius 7 Sounds with 'The Rite of Spring': • Sibelius 7 Sounds Plays: The Rite of Spring The playback is directly from a Sibelius score (Sibelius Ultimate) of this score: http://ks.petruccimusiclibrary.org/fi... Here's what I noticed: Strengths: generally good interpretation of dynamics and techniques directly from the Sibelius score, which creates a natural sounding performance (same as the Rite). Unique sounds made playback a bit more realistic (like using the euphonium for the tenor tuba) although there were substitutions that had to made; Noteperformer contains no bass oboe, so I used the lower end of the oboe d'amore patch. Balance of instruments was also natural sounding, resulting in little tweaking on my end. Particularly strong instruments were the bassoons and contrabassoon, horns, trumpets, trombones, tubas, celesta, harps and percussion. The timbres of the instruments in Noteperformer in general worked really well for this music. Keep in mind that most of the dynamics and balances you hear are Holst's own without my interference and all I had to do was press play in the Sibelius file. That's pretty extraordinary and attests to the power of Noteperformer. Weaknesses: The winds, particularly the flutes, oboes and clarinets, however sound a little too full in their quieter dynamics resulting in some softer voices become drowned out even though they're all quiet. In loud tutti sections (like in Mars), brass sometimes had to be cranked up even though they were playing fff, otherwise they wouldn't be heard. The choir sounds could use a little remastering to sound clearer, because they mostly sound like they're underwater. As always, if you like what you hear, buy the software and support the developer! https://www.noteperformer.com/ Here's each part of the suite so you can check out a section of your choosing: Mars, The Bringer of War (0:00) Venus, The Bringer of Peace (7:41) Mercury, The Winged Messenger (15:36) Jupiter, The Bringer of Jollity (19:25) Saturn, The Bringer of Old Age (28:06) Uranus, The Magician (38:21) Neptune, The Mystic (44:15)
