Let's clarify some things right at the beginning. The abbreviation TGV (Train à Grande Vitesse) actually means a high-speed train that operates on LGV (Ligne à Grande Vitesse), which means a high-speed line. In this video, we will put our focus on the concept of LGVs development, and only after that, in a separate video, we will explore the mutual synergy of the TGV, Eurotunnel, and High speed 1 with the aim to investigate the effect they had on European traffic performance. The best way to summarize the topics we covered in this video is as follows: the beginnings of TGV (gas turbine trains!), construction of the first LGV: Paris - Lyon, the logic behind the further network extensions, development of all other lines and their technical aspect, and finally, the traffic performance of TGV trains.
