The Northern Heights are an up and coming, exciting, contemporary folk band. The band’s composition is very dynamic and sometimes has 3 people, sometimes 6; either way it’s always great. We first heard The Northern Heights by chance at an event in London and were completely blown away. Folk is one of the most broad and diverse genres. With a massive influx of artists over the last few years, folk has expanded and grown broader still, always evolving and staying fresh. The Northern Heights are at the peak of this changing wave, drawing their inspiration from many an awesome place. Precise, graceful harmonies that remind you of The Staves. Gripping melodies and foot stamping of Mumford and Sons. All tied together with playful, sensitive lyrics reminiscent of Loudon Wainwright. They really are modern contemporary folk at it’s best, it’s most vibrant. Be sure to check out their links below to see more of them. . We have done a lot of urban music recently which works well with it being colder and having to film inside. It was however, nice to go back to the initial folk roots of Fairlight Sessions. The Northern Heights are a band that feel as though they should be in the green and open spaces. In amongst the places and atmosphere that they write about. We went for a walk round Bushy Park with the band, with just a general radius in mind, and ended up finding an amazing fallen tree next to the ponds.
