Managing conflicts of interest. COPE Forum introduction.

Conflicts of interest (or competing interests) concern situations where a person’s professional judgement or objectivity might be compromised by other interests. Conflicts of interest (COIs) can affect researchers, peer reviewers, or editors, and concerns about COIs can be raised by almost any party at any stage of publication. In this introduction to the discussion at the COPE Forum, Mark Hooper and Loreta Tauginienė, COPE Council Members, share in practice examples of where conflicts of interest arise for different stakeholders at pre and post-publication stages.
