Sky ECC: The messenger service that gangsters loved [English sub] I Lösch alles, Bro! I frontal

The crypto-messenger Sky ECC was considered to be absolutely secure – so secure, in fact, that criminals also used the app for their business: for drug trafficking, torture, murder. The CEO of Sky Global – the company behind Sky ECC – was so convinced of his encryption technology that he offered a prize of $5 million to anyone who managed to crack the app. What he didn't realise was that Europol, of all organisations, found a way. For a year and a half, investigators stored everything: chats, photos and videos. They decoded more than a billion messages. The investigators were able to arrest hundreds of suspected criminals, break up drug rings and, according to their own statements, prevented numerous crimes and 114 murders. In Germany alone, 680 preliminary proceedings have been initiated in connection with Sky ECC. Europol's intrusion into Sky ECC is a astounding success for the investigators. But for privacy advocates, the operation is one thing above all: mass surveillance. _______________ Sky ECC is one of the largest surveillance operations since the NSA scandal broke.
