Take the Mic - Inspiring Islander: Rhythm Titimaea

'Take the Mic', a new talent show, premiered recently on TV2. The show features singers and songwriters aged 15-18 and helps them to create a music video with the help of industry experts. The contestants are handpicked by musician Mikey Dam and music video director Connor Pritchard, with audiences ultimately deciding who will take home the crown. Out of a pool of 200 contestants, 12 teens have been handpicked to showcase their talents. The contestants, who range in age and location, learn tips and tricks from directors, hair and makeup artists, props artists, choreographer, singing coaches and more. On October 7th, after we’ve met all 12 contestants and watched their videos, public voting will open, closing October 9th. The top three will then appear in a live finale on October 10th, judged by Connor and Mikey. One of the contestants is 16 year old Rhythm Titimaea (Samoan, Maori and Niuean) who sings Aaradhna’s ‘I’m Not The Same’ as her entry. She comes from a musical family, often singing with her sisters and mum while her dad plays the keyboard. Her parents describe her as a natural performer who has been singing since she was a little girl. She cites her parents as her inspiration to pursue music as a career and is excited about how 'Take The Mic' could take that to the next level.
