WEST CHESTER, Ohio (Liz Bonis) - A mom from West Chester is making a big difference in the lives of others from her own hospital bed! For the past two weeks, a mom has been in Good Samaritan Hospital with a pregnancy complication. What she did when she found out about it is what makes this mom pretty amazing. Erin Kelly was six months pregnant when Dr. Donna Lambers told her she had what's called placenta accreta. Dr. Lambers said, "So the placenta is the afterbirth, which feeds the baby from the uterine wall, and in some cases instead of it just adhering like a pancake, there are fingers of tissue that actually embed into the uterine wall." That raises the risk for bleeding complications in delivery. Erin started a bedside blog and with the help of friends, began organizing community blood drives. To her surprise, "It's absolutely amazing! Just putting the story out there people are really willing to help," said Erin. So much so that dozens have stopped in to neighborhood blood centers to donate in her name. Her hope is that when people see this story or read her blog they too will be inspired to become a blood donor. In just two weeks 50 people have made donations at Hoxworth in Erin Kelly's name. She is saying thank you in advance if you can too. Erin is hoping for a safe delivery at 34 weeks. That's two weeks away.
