Hello everyone!✨ We present to you the 4th episode of our original VOD series, KO-WORKERS! 👀 In our 4th episode, Irene goes down south to the city of Sangju, in Gyeongsangbuk-do! She is met with a familiar view of pots scattered across the yard. However this time, she will be creating not the food stored inside them, but the pots themselves. Irene will experience the traditional method of creating onggi (traditional earthenware) for a day!🔥 Irene’s KO-Worker for the day, Master Dae-hee Jeong, is a master of onggi crafting, a skill that was designated as an intangible cultural asset. Onggi is where food and all sorts of other items were stored in the past, especially fermented foods. The traditional and ancient methods which have been around for thousands of years are disappearing, which is why the government designated these skills as an intangible cultural asset. First, high quality clay is produced by mixing different soils. Second, the onggi is shaped, with charcoal placed in the center. Then once the onggis are air dried, they are glazed with lye, a fermented mix of pine wood ashes and yakto. This process is very important in order to create an onggi that breathes, so that it can store food for a long time. Lastly, the onggi is placed in a kiln, which is fired up to high temperatures, reaching 1200 degrees celcius. Join Irene as she works her way through the entire process of making traditional Korean earthenware Onggi, taught by the master himself. It’s real hard work for Irene and the others. We hope this episode is informative and that you get a chance to experience these traditional jobs vicariously through Irene.🤎 Thank you, and we hope you enjoy Episode 4 of KO-WORKERS! ========================================= KO-WORKERS is a show where you can get a vicarious experience of jobs unique to Korea!
