Currently hosted by prominent journalist Rupesh Shrestha, Fireside tackles critical socio-political issues, featuring major figures who are accountable to the public. Senior Vice President of the Maoist Center, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, acknowledged the presence of ideological and cultural deviations within the party and emphasized the need for transformation. Speaking on Kantipur Television's weekly program Fireside, Shrestha stated that the party cannot reach a position to lead the country without fundamental changes. Regarding the possibility of former Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun returning to active politics, Shrestha said that there has been no formal discussion about it within the party. Shrestha, who is also a former Foreign Minister, described the agreement on the BRI Implementation Framework as positive and stressed the need to focus on its implementation. While reviewing the government’s performance over the past five months, Shrestha criticized the lack of substantial progress, stating that apart from a few minor achievements, the government has failed to deliver any significant outcomes. Refuting Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s accusation that the Maoist party is a hub of betrayal, Shrestha remarked that Oli’s party, the UML, is losing credibility while the Maoists are gaining popularity, which he believes has caused the UML to panic. During his tenure in Maoist-led governments, Shrestha held three different ministerial roles: Minister of Physical Infrastructure, Home Minister, and Foreign Minister. His term as Home Minister is regarded as successful; however, he faces criticism for failing to bring political leadership under the scope of investigation and action in cases like the Lalita Niwas land grab, Bhutanese refugee scandal, and gold smuggling case. He provided clarification on these issues during the program. Shrestha also expressed dissatisfaction over the incomplete investigation of the case involving Rabi Lamichhane.
