Soaked but Fast – Underdog Takes Masters in Adelaide | PPR 2025

This one got messy… but Underdog thrives in the wet. Onboard with the Underdog team for Round 3 of the 2025 Pedal Prix Racing Series (PPR, formerly AHPVSS) at the Festival of Pedal Prix in Adelaide – Saturday 14th June 2025. This 7-hour community race delivered it all: Wheel-to-wheel racing Tight slipstream battles Relentless heavy rain Behind-the-scenes pit action Despite brutal conditions, Underdog powered to 1st in the Masters Category, finishing: FIRST in category 6th Overall 311 km in 7 hours Stint times: Stint 3: 00:07:00 Stint 4: 01:10:00 Engineering Focus: These Australian human powered vehicles are more than just bicycles — they’re lightweight, carbon/Kevlar/fibreglass fully-faired endurance vehicles where design decisions can make or break a race. For Adelaide 2025, Underdog ran lowered tyre pressures that may have slightly increased straight-line rolling resistance but improves grip, cornering stability, and overall lap performance on a technical circuit. We trialled a windscreen wiper to combat external water drops, which offered small but useful benefits in spray-heavy sections. Despite enclosed wheels, the rain (10mm during these stints!) carried huge amounts of sand into the bike and the water meant chains and bearings needed serious post-race clean. Rider strategy? Keep stints long and steady. While the pit crew stood by ready for emergency stops — with over a decade of wet-weather experience and (mostly) refined anti-fog techniques — our riders powered through the downpours. It’s a constant process of tuning machine and team: every wet race adds to our “toolbox” of strategies for grip, visibility, and reliability.
