Johnny Dickinson was a Northumbrian slide player: a lovely man, taken far too soon. He was the only guitarist to change the course of my own playing since I heard Bert Jansch round about 1968. This song sums up the dream of a young lad from the land of castles and old kings who wants, one day, to go to America. He did. It was entirely down to Johnny that I started using a bottleneck. He liked an actual bottle neck from a brandy bottle but I discovered Ian McWee at Diamond Bottlenecks. Ian made me a thicker than my usual one when I bought this Goldtone Resonator.
