Bourrée • Pronounced: boo-RAY • French Meaning: to stuff • Movement: Tiny, rapid steps on pointe in sous-sus that create a smooth gliding effect. Échappé • Pronounced: ay-sha-PAY • French Meaning: to escape • Movement: A slide from a closed position to an open position on pointe, often in second. These steps are foundational for building stability, balance, and confidence on pointe.
