Productivity Applications Under ActiveGS

While the GS was mostly known as a gaming computer, it had its share of productivity applications. These applications were very unique in that they had their own look and feel and were different from the standard character-based applications that define MS-DOS. Most of these programs though were very simple and were geared towards novice users. As such, many of these programs were quite limited in their capabilities. Their were drawbacks as well, especially when it came to graphical word-processors. Because the GS had a somewhat unusual aspect ratio (the screen was doubled vertically), text was stretched as such, make WYSIWYG applications somewhat unusable. However, programs that ran mostly in text (or pseudo-text mode), like WordPerfect were immune from this issue. Thus, WordPerfect users were able to still write complex documents while remaining compatible with PC users who used MS-DOS. Productivity wasn't the strong point of this platform. However, one could still get real work done with the right tools, and applications like WordPerfect would fit the bill.
