Silly People was the first track on This is Your Life, a now-rare 1979 vinyl album by Twist, Peter Marsh's post punk New Wave band. It was recorded at Amp Pro, Tony Visconti's Shepherds Bush studio which was based in a house owned by Nick Lowe. #rarevinyl #postpunk #postpunkmusic 1970s Silly People was only ever released on the vinyl album by Twist and this is the first time the track has been made available online. Twist, formed by Peter Marsh, included Steve Corduner (Byzantium) on drums and Anthony Wimshurst (a.k.a. "Wims") on bass guitar. Silly People was written by Peter Marsh in collaboration, for the lyrics, with Anthony James Illingworth (a.k.a. "AJI"). Marsh and Illingworth went to school together in the rural Lake District in the UK and both "escaped" to London - and the lyrics clearly reference their desire to leave home and get out of a small community: Silly People - Lyrics Goodbye Silly People I'm getting out while I can. Goodbye friend and keeper I'm Your Exodus Man So long! It's not that I think I'm Moses, or anything better than you So move away in your salad days We'll I've got to do that too. Too many people just sit around Acting out a mime Well I want anonymity We've all got to go sometime Goodbye Silly People I'm getting out while I can Goodbye friend and keeper I'm your Exodus Man Do you ever think what's over the hill Where the clouds meet the earth? I can't play your local rules Take one, give in, make love, give birth Growing up is finished Though it's a lonely route I'm going to walk right out of these bounds Till the blind dog licks my boot Goodbye Silly People Goodbye I was a hero on the dart board In the public bar at night Watched by girls all dressed the same Eye's shut, I'm inon it That 's good, that's right Every day the clock chimes more I go through it all again Too drunk to turn down the music Dancing in my brain Goodbye Silly People I'm getting out while I can. Goodbye friend and keeper I'm Your Exodus Man I'm Your Exodus Man Exodus man Goodbye Exodus man Goodbye Exodus man Silly people Exodus man Goodbye Exodus man It's not that I think I'm Moses Or anything better than you Exodus man Goodbye
