We are in the middle of a flaring global debate about the prices of new drugs, and the discussions become more polarized day by day. Who is to blame? Pharmaceutical & biotech companies for setting ridiculously high prices? Physicians & hospitals for asking high prices to include patients in clinical trials? Or health insurance companies for driving up the costs? Politicians are often inconsistent in setting policy. And patients? They are stuck in the middle. It takes almost 13 years to get a new drug on the market from the moment of development on. But after 6 years it is already clear if the drugs are effective. Why are medicine not made available after those first 6 years? What happens in those 7 years in between? Ingmar elaborates and explains. Do we want change? Then, we need to start a movement. Contact your own health insurance company, and ask them if they are willing to make extra efforts to enable the use of new medicines at an early stage. Make that first move!
