From their amazing 8th studio album "Burn" which was released in February 1974. This album features the "new" Deep Purple with a couple of major changes to the band. In mid 1973, egos and other "internal issues" began to inflame the band and long-standing lead vocalist Ian Gillan ultimately resigned after being with them since 1970. Gillan was "that voice" and a critical part of Deep Purple's meteoric rise to success from their early 70's albums, "In Rock, Fireball and Machine Head" and put many of their hits from that time on the map, especially "Smoke On The Water". In addition, bassist Roger Glover was fired from the band apparently by Richie Blackmore (Iconic Lead Guitarist) so that line-up for Deep Purple was now history. The band looked at many lead singers to replace Ian Gillan and finally chose 22 year old David Coverdale who had strong, "more mature" vocals that they thought would fit well with them. It obviously did! Coverdale turned out to be a perfect fit, especially on "Burn" and was with them from 1973 to 1976. After he left Deep Purple in 1976, he founded and established "Whitesnake" in 1978 who soon became one of the 80's most successful rock bands. They also hired Glenn Hughes as their bass player. Hughes was the bassist and lead vocalist for the hard rock band "Trapeze". Because he also had a noteworthy voice, Deep Purple discussed having Hughes and Coverdale occasionally share lead vocals which is why Hughes ended up joining them. I've always liked "Might Just Take Your Life" as a song but especially for Ian Paice's solid, creative drumming in it. There are four parts in the song where Paice completely changes around the fills which I admire and he adds a few little fills in areas that are not where you'd normally not expect them. Brilliant, diverse, powerful and a very creative drummer and at the top of the most legendary Rock & Roll drummers of all time!
