Episode 49 – Celebrating our country’s 250th anniversary with our local historical societies. On July 4, 2026, our nation will commemorate and celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The journey toward this historic milestone is an opportunity to pause and reflect on our nation’s past, honor the contributions of all Americans, and learn more about the many contributions and stories about our local communities. Elizabeth Normen and Tedd Levy, Old Saybrook Historical Society, share some stories of the interesting history of Old Saybrook and discuss the many wonderful activities and speakers scheduled for the celebration of our 250th anniversary. Elizabeth and Tedd are both volunteers extraordinaire at the Historical Society, helping to take care of the beautiful Hart House, the stunning gardens, and developing interesting exhibitions. Elizabeth and Tedd also discuss the research that has been ongoing to aid Elizabeth in writing her new book ... soon to be released in April, Awakenings and Revolutions: the Harts, Saybrook, and a New Nation. Tune in and join us to kick off the 250th anniversary of our country with a fascinating conversation about Old Saybrook’s rich history. Be sure to connect with the Old Saybrook Historical Society for a great array of programs and celebration events in 2026.
