While the relief requirement is somewhat up for debate, and I'm not leaning one way or the other, I figured having some kind of valve relief would be better than no valve relief. I did arrive at this conclusion somewhat haphazardly, Josh at Yoshifab has a fantastic cutting rig that does this probably all told in about an hour start to finish. I've used it before, it works very well, but I already bug Josh enough and I didn't want to hassle him with last minute preparation and shipping (plus, just on the off chance he doesn't have it in the future, I wanted to work out another option). If you don't have a spare junk head and spare valves, I would highly recommend renting the tool.. it is in many ways easier and faster (but more expensive) One sheet of the sandpaper is ~$6, and it's 12x16, should be more than enough with a ton left over for future shenanigans.
