Distributed Optical Fiber Sensing for Geotechnical and Structural Health Applications presented by the FOSA Technology Committee The FOSA Technology Committee reviews the basic principles of distributed fiber optic sensing with a particular focus on the measurement of distributed strain using Brillouin backscattering together with the dedicated sensing cables. Concentration is on the applications, reviewing ground movement, subsidence and erosion, tunnel, dams and other large civil engineering structures. Examples and field data will illustrate the different application domains. Presented by the FOSA Technology Committee, primary speaker FOSA Technology Committee member Dr. Etienne Rochat. Dr. Etienne Rochat is CTO of Omnisens, in charge of product research & development. Etienne’s focus is on optical interrogators, sensing cables and novel applications. Etienne holds a PhD in science from the University of Neuchâtel, and a Master degree of engineering from the Swiss Institute of Technology (EPFL, Lausanne).
