After visiting Chiang Mai for the yearly lantern festival i make my way to Chiang Rai via bus. It was a challenge to buy the tickets. I had walked an hour from my hostel to the bus depot the day before to purchase my ticket for the next day and was informed that every single bus ticket for the following day was sold out. After 45 minutes of standing around in the bus depot attempting to change the hotel reservations i had already made and speaking with a ticket scalper i finally asked a different employee who informed me that they did indeed have tickets available for the following day. So after a further 30 minutes waiting in line and speaking with the woman at the ticket counter i managed to buy a ticket to and from Chiang Rai, Thailand. This video takes place the next day when i actually made the journey and it went pretty smoothly. I paid 315 baht for my VIP ticket and id say it was certainly worth it over the standard 200 baht standard seats. To visit Chiang Rai your options are basically to fly from Bangkok or take a bus from Chiang Mai and the bus is a very popular option with a shocking amount of foreigners buying tickets at the one company that operates the bus route. My bus was apparently the best one and offered A/C, water, and some cookies as well as a bathroom on board. The bus claims it only takes 3 hours but in reality it was closer to 5 so the VIP bus is the way to go if it is available.
